Bad Jokes

Laughter

used to bubble

closer to the surface

in me

I was the girl

giggling in churches

at the back of classrooms

and at all the wrong moments

Later

I found humor in stuffy speeches

self-righteousness

or in anyone

who thought he had all the answers

The happiness in me

seemed indiscriminate

almost boundless

until today

when I find myself without you

wondering

what I ever found so funny
